Home to Forest Elephants, Chimpanzee and the legendry White Breasted Guinea Fowl, this remote and rarely visited Nature Reserve protects an area of 509km² of virgin, wet evergreen Rainforest and lies in Southwestern Ghana. It is beautifully unspolit and contains over 70 mammal species such as Forest Elephants, Chimpanzee, Leopard, seven species of Monkey including Mona, Spot Nosed, Diana, Olive and Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Bongo, Antelope, Duiker and many reptiles and amphibians.

There are over 600 different species of Butterflies, along with numerous species of birds. Over 300 plant species have been recorded in just one hectare and there are currently more than 870 vascular plant species known.
This means that Ankasa has the greatest biodiversity of any reserve within Ghana. There are currently 4 camps within the reserve and day or night, trekking between them really is something to behold.

The sense of isolation from civilization and the feeling that this immense Rainforest has been here unspoilt since the dawn of time conspires to offer a true wilderness experience. One of the highlights must be camping in the Bamboo Cathedral within the rainforest; this is a truly beautiful place. If we are lucky, we will see a herd of Forest Elephants passing and Monkeys playing above our camp. An experience to be treasured forever.
